For the Biblical Counselling your lecturer will be Dr Greg Cook.

Greg Cook has been an associate pastor at Christ Chapel Bible Church, Fort Worth Texas since 1995 and the founder and director of Soul Care since 2004.

He graduated with a Doctor of Ministry from Westminster Theological Seminary in Pastoral Counselling, Masters in Counselling from Amberton University, and Master of Arts in Biblical Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. He also serves as a council board member of the Biblical Counselling Coalition – BCC home page  Greg is married to Nancy and they have three daughters and a son-in-law

Greg has, over the years, made several visits to the Bible Institute where he teaches this course as part of the Licentiate in Theology for our fulltime students.  We feel that this subject is important enough to make it accessible to the public.  No previous experience is needed to enrol for the course.

What will I be studying in the Biblical Counselling? Society today puts enormous pressures on people and many are finding it difficult to cope.   In the past, people could look to various support systems offering a biblical worldview and perspective that helped them cope, such as family, friends, community and the church.  Today for various reasons, biblical counsel is rarely available.  As a result we are confronted by a host of hurting people not only outside the church, but also within it.

What are some of these problems?  spiritual brokenness and isolation,  relationship difficulties, unemployment, depression, addictions, worry & anxiety,  loneliness, sickness,  aging & retirement,  dying & death, grief,  guilt, bitterness, unforgiveness, mental illness, sexual problems and suicide.

This is the challenge facing the Church.   Although every Christian is called upon to show the compassion of Christ to those needing help, there are some who are specially called and gifted to provide help at a deeper level. This course is designed to help equip both groups and encourage the latter group by providing an understanding of the theory and practice of counselling from a biblical perspective.  By the end of the course, students should have developed a basic understanding in dealing with some counselling situations.

This course is introductory to the whole discipline of biblical counselling.   Students who intend to become more involved in pastoral counselling will need to study further and should work under the supervision of a professional counsellor.

Please note that although this course will be helpful, it is not a qualification for the student to do professional counselling.
